Women's Trilby Hats

A trilby is a fedora with a shorter brim, worn turned down at the front and up at the back: neater, more compact and easy to wear with short hair, jeans and tailoring. Our women’s trilby hats include Maevian in wool felt for fall and winter, in nine colors from wine and navy to light gray, and straw trilbies for summer: plain, patterned, two-tone and open-weave styles with black, belted, chain and feather-trimmed bands.

Trilby or fedora?

Both have a pinched crown. A fedora’s brim is wider and sits flatter; a trilby’s is short and angled, so it frames the face without hiding it. If you like the fedora look but find wide brims a lot, start with a trilby. For wider brims, see our felt fedoras and straw and panama hats.

How to wear a trilby

Wear it slightly tipped back. Felt suits a blazer, a turtleneck or a camel coat; straw suits linen, sundresses and denim shorts. Short brims also work well with glasses, a low bun or a short haircut.

Questions

Is a trilby a women’s hat or a men’s hat?
Both. Most of our straw trilbies are unisex; Maevian is cut for women.

Does a trilby suit a small face?
Often, yes: the short brim stays in proportion on smaller faces and petite frames.

Finding your size

Sizes are head circumference: 56–58 cm (22–22¾ in), 58–60 cm (22¾–23⅝ in) and 60–62 cm (23⅝–24⅜ in). Measure around your head just above your eyebrows and ears, and if you’re between sizes, choose the larger one. Most trilbies come in all three sizes. Our hat size guide has the full chart.
